Give It All It Takes
And say to Archippus,
Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou
fulfil it. Colossians 4 vs 17
Ministry is God working through man; it’s not man working
apart from God neither is it God working apart from man. It is very important
therefore to know that the strength and character of God seen in a man is not
solely the responsibility of God but the responsibility of God and man. To this
end, Paul wrote to Archippus a direct instruction which is worthy of note. That
instruction is our opening scripture.
Looking at the instruction, we need to break it into three:
Take heed to the
ministry
The ministry that you
have received in the Lord
That you may fulfil
it.
Ministry doesn’t fulfil itself, it is fulfilled by man. Every
man walking the path of the accomplishment of God’s assignment is expected to
be responsible and accountable to God for all that He has received from Him.
Apostle Paul said to Archippus to get into the assignment God has given him
because he had been enabled by God to minister according to the New Testament
(2 Corinthians 3 vs 5-6) thus the problem of ability had been solved by God for
him.
Let me say this. As a minister, you have the ability of God
in you so respond to it and fulfil your assignment.
Paul in that same instruction told him how to fulfil the
assignment. He told Archippus to ‘take
heed’.
To take heed means to look and pay attention to the
ministry. In other words, he was to refuse distractions and focus on God’s work
for him. As a minister, one of the distractions you can have is to be carried
away by another person’s work. Whatever has not been given to you by the Lord
is not your business. That was why Apostle Paul clearly pointed out to Archippus
that the ministry he was to pay attention to was the one he received, not the
one another person received.
Fellow minister, what have you received? Stay with it. If
you have received a teaching or a prophetic ministry, stay with it. If all you
have received is an itinerary ministry and not a pastoral ministry, stay with it.
If you have received the ministry of an associate, stay with it. Nobody is
inferior in his field; a fish may be weak outside water but it a genius in water.
The king in you has a jurisdiction and that is your calling. If you are not
sure about where you belong then pray to God to direct you and He will surely
do.
Lastly I want you to know that when you give it all it
takes, you will take all it gives!
Shalom!
